Sister Janice (Theresa Mary Zwickl) was born April 23, 1923 to Michael Zwickl and Katherine Zwickl in South Bend, Indiana. [Her mother's maiden name was the same as her married name. Both parents were born in Austria.] She entered the congregation January 21, 1942, received the Habit August 15, 1942 and made Final Profession August 15, 1947. Sister died June 22, 2011 at Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana and is interred in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Indiana.Sister taught first and second grades between 1946 and 1959 at: Most Holy Redeemer, Evergreen Park, Illinois; Sacred Heart, Fort Wayne, Saint Patrick's, South Bend, Saint Paul's, Valparaiso, and Saint Mary's, Michigan City, Indiana. In 1958, she was asked if she would be interested in teaching the blind. She was, and studied Braille earning a certificate to teach in the Blind Program at Most Holy Redeemer School, Evergreen Park, Illinois and Saint Raphael's in Chicago, Illilnois, enabling the children to become integrated into the regular classes. When the program was phased out in 1971, she returned to the regular classroon at Saint Vincent de Paul, Elkhart, Indiana and subsequestly did tutoring and served as teacher and/or librarian at Queen of All Saints, Michigan City, Saint Joseph's, South Bend, Indiana; and Saint Mary's, Woodstock, Illinois. From 1987-1990 she cared for the elderly at Lombardy Home in South Bend. Lastly she was librarian at Mary's Soliltude, a retreat center on Saint Mary's campus, Notre Dame, Indiana
