Sisters of Saint Casimir
The Sisters of St. Casimir Collection contains the archives and records of the Sisters of Saint Casimir since their founding in 1907, in Scranton, PA, by Venerable Maria Kaupas. Mother Maria desired to found a congregation which would sustain and nurture the faith life of the early Lithuanian immigrants in the United States. She encouraged her Sisters to do the same and then to “welcome” and care for all others who would become part of their lives.
Mission, Service & Faith
That spirit of welcome has shaped the Sisters of Saint Casimir more than a century of ministry in education, healthcare, and care for the elderly — from parish schools in Pennsylvania coal towns to Holy Cross Hospital and Maria High School in Chicago, and missions reaching New Mexico, Lithuania, and Argentina. Rooted in prayer and their Lithuanian heritage, the Sisters continue to respond to the needs of the times with simplicity, hospitality, and joy.
The Sisters of St. Casimir continue their ministry to serve others as ‘powerhouses’ of prayer and by their presence making a difference in the lives of the people they touch each day, making a difference in our world.
